It’s the fourth day of the 2024 Sustainable Golf Week and today the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS) is reviewing how nature and golf go hand in hand.
The 2022 edition of the Women’s Scottish Open made history by becoming the first LET tournament to become a GEO Certified Tournament.
Earlier this year, another tournament also joined that status with the 2023 edition of the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open – which was hosted at Migros Golfpark Holzhäusern – becoming the first LET event in continental Europe to receive the certification and our dream is that a LETAS tournament will join them soon.
The widely regarded, credible distinction is overseen by GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation and reflects the tournament’s commitments, actions and positive impacts throughout the planning, staging and legacies of the event.

Obtaining the GEO certification marks an important step in the implementation of concrete action plans and helps to reinforce the credibility and visibility of sustainable development in our sport. The Rose Ladies Open, our most sustainable event is on a journey to protect and promote nature as well as embrace low carbon technology, innovate for a circular economy and enhance social value across tournament operations.
At this year’s championship a highlight of the tournament’s sustainability efforts was the return of the TREES for Birdies initiative.
After the 2023 Rose Ladies Open, 60 trees were planted for every birdie scored on the 13th hole.
Now after its second year over 100 trees will be planted, further contributing to the long-term ecological health of Brocket Hall and demonstrating how sports can play a role in reforestation efforts.
The event has also taken care to preserve the local wildlife by designing walkways and signage that guide spectators around sensitive habitats, ensuring minimal disruption to the estate’s native species such as red kites, Egyptian ducks, and other wildlife.
The host venue this season, Brocket Hall continues its commitment to environmental stewardship through various projects.
The estate manages its woodland areas to promote biodiversity, operates electric vehicles across its grounds, and employs sustainable practices in food production for its on-site restaurant.
These efforts align with the Rose Ladies Open’s sustainability goals, and Brocket Hall’s recent GEO foundation Golf Certification further underscores its dedication to eco-friendly operations.
