VAVROVA LOOKING FORWARD TO LADIES SLOVAK GOLF OPEN ON HOME COURSE

Getting to play at home is always special and Michaela Vavrova will be teeing it up on her home course on the LET Access Series (LETAS) this week.

The 23-year-old has played three LETAS events so far in 2024 with a best result of T36 at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge.

Vavrova, who recently turned professional, is excited to be able to play in the Ladies Slovak Golf Open at her home course at Tale Ski Golf & Hotel Resort.

“I am very excited to play an Access event on my home golf course,” she said. “Tale is one of my most favourite golf courses and to be able to play a bigger tournament here means a lot to me.

“It is important to know where to place the ball on the green since the greens break a lot. I hope the girls will enjoy the nature and the landscape of the course, it has such a special energy with all the trees and mountain air.

“My closest family will be here and some of our family friends as well. We talked to our neighbours at home, and it looks like they will come as well.”

Vavrova, who graduated from Nebraska in May, is one of ten Slovakian players teeing it up this in their homeland.

The LET used to host a tournament in Slovakia but hasn’t done so for 10 years and the Slovakian player hopes the Ladies Slovak Golf Open will push the sport forward in her home country.

She explained: “I believe this a big step forward for Slovak Golf. Women’s professional golf is coming back after 10 years to Slovakia, and I hope it will motivate us and the younger players to continue playing as professionals.

“Being able to play with girls from all over the world can help the girls realise how important it is to see how people play and how much more improvement we need compared to other European countries. We definitely need more diversity in order to grow as players.”

Having graduated from university earlier in the summer and decided to join the professional ranks, there has been a lot of changes for Vavrova.

Even though she has only played in three LETAS events so far, she has really enjoyed the experience and is thankful for the support of the older players on Tour.

“There’s been lots of adjustments for sure,” she added. “I graduated in May and finished my career as a student-athlete in Nebraska. It is very nice to be home close to my family and friends after four years.

“College life is something very different compared to what we have here. I am slowly building my team of people around me and finding my ways to do things and it is going pretty good so far.

“I turned pro at the end of July and won my first tournament which was very exciting. I am enjoying the fact that I can call golf my job now and be fully focused on practicing and playing.

“Even though I was not very happy with how I played in the first LETAS events, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the courses a lot. I really love how open the older girls on Tour are to help and answer the questions I had about the logistics of traveling, roommates, sponsors, courses, etc. It is nice to feel welcomed!”
