SWEDEN’S SVEDENSKIOLD WINS FIRST PROFESSIONAL TITLE ON THIRD LETAS START

Moa Svedenskiold shot a final round two-under 70 at the Ladies German Challenge powered by VcG to clinch her first professional title on the LET Access Series (LETAS).

The 22-year-old Swede’s overall score of nine-under 207 was two strokes fewer than the duo of England’s Bel Wardle (69) and France’s Lauren Holmey (69).

Another shot behind at six-under overall was Wales’ Ffion Tynan (68) in solo fourth place.

Overnight leader Hanna Tauber closed with a five-over 77 to drop into a tie for fifth place alongside Italy’s Maria Vittoria Corbi (72) at four-under for the tournament.

Svedenskiold said: “I feel amazing. It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I’m relieved and really, really happy to celebrate this with close friends that I really know. My mom and dad are here, my dad was my caddy, so I’m just really, really happy.

“My dad is great. He just stays really calm for being in this situation, and we just talked about everything other than golf. We joke about stuff, talking about the road trip back home to Sweden after this, and all that.”

Playing in the final group and starting Sunday two shots behind Tauber, Svedenskiold was focused on playing her own game.

She opened with nine straight pars on the front nine.

“I kept my head down and kept grinding to stay positive, and like I said yesterday, I control what I can control,” she said. “I saved a few pars, played really solid. I just followed my game plan, pretty much solid off the tee, solid into the greens, and then had a really good week with my putter.”

Despite making only her third bogey of the tournament on the tenth hole, Svedenskiold remained one shot behind the leaders after Tauber double bogeyed the same hole.

The Swede then surged ahead with birdies on holes 13, 16 and 17 to open up a two-shot lead over Wardle and Holmey heading into the final hole.

She said: “I hit a good five wood off the tee and laid up on the par-5 16th, had a good number in, and hit it pretty good from the fairway and then made a good six-footer for birdie.

“Then obviously the par-3 17th played a bit different today into the wind, and back left pin. I just hit a solid five iron straight towards the pin, and it landed probably about five feet from the hole and made that putt. So that was really nice to just keep that momentum into 18.

“Walking up on 18, I asked my dad where I was, and he said I was leading with two shots, so obviously that makes my play a bit more defensive, but it was fun. Yeah, really enjoyed it.”

Svedenskiold will have a short turnaround with the next LETAS event, the PGA Championship in her home country Sweden, set to begin on June 24.

“It’s going to be a car ride, pretty much all day,” she added. “We’re driving all the way back, probably gonna arrive around midnight, and it’s gonna be a short period of time, but we’re gonna try to squeeze in a celebration somewhere.”

Further down the leaderboard, Sweden’s Elsa Svensson shot a final round 68 to finish in seventh position three-under for the tournament.

A shot behind Svensson came the quintet of Swiss trio Victoria Levy (71), Anais Maggetti (73) and Caroline Sturdza (73), Finland’s Anna Backman (72) and Italy’s Emma Lundgren (72) in a tie for eighth place.
