Olivia Cowan
Germany’s Olivia Cowan continued her strong form this season with an opening round of 68 to take a two shot lead in the first round of the Borås Ladies Open at Borås Golf Club, in Sweden.
Cowan, currently ranked 18th in the Women’s Amateur Golf Ranking, is already a winner on the LET Access Series this season, picking up her first title at the ASGI Ladies Open in Switzerland in May. Cowan is also the current Portuguese and Spanish Ladies’ Amateur Champion, winning both titles earlier this year.
The 19-year-old could not have asked for a better start to her opening round, recording an eagle two on the par 4 third hole. Birdies on the 4th, 8th, 9th, 14th and 15th holes, along with a three bogeys on the 6th, 10th and 18th added up to a solid 4 under par.
A trio of players, Brazil’s Victoria Lovelady and Sweden’s Josefine Nyqvist and Martina Edberg are Cowan’s closest challengers at 2 under par, 70.
After tomorrow’s second round there will be a cut to the top 40 professionals and ties. The second day’s play will commence at 8.00am on Saturday morning.
