Scotland’s Gabrielle Macdonald is excited to get going at this week’s season finale – the Santander Golf Tour Barcelona after having a few weeks off.
The 2021 LET Access Series concludes with the 14th tournament of the season in Barcelona after what has been a jam-packed schedule.
Macdonald has had an excellent 2021 with two wins on LETAS – the Allerum Open and the Lavaux Ladies Open – which has seen her secure her LET card for 2022.
Following her victory in Switzerland in the middle of September, the Scottish golfer took some time off to refresh and reset.
But the 28-year-old is ready to get back on course and is excited to be teeing it up at Real Club de Golf El Prat.
“I’m feeling good, it’s nice to be back playing after a few weeks off and it’s so great to be playing at El Prat. The course is fantastic and I’m really looking forward to playing it again,” said Macdonald.
“The course is in great condition, the greens are tricky with lots of subtle slopes, so I think putting will be the key this week and leaving myself in good positions!”
As well as her two victories, Macdonald has proved to be consistent in 2021 with four top-ten finishes and another three results in the top-20.
And that consistency has ensured the Scotswoman has been ranking highly in the Order of Merit – currently second with 1,930.78 points with just one tournament left.
With her LET card in the bag, Macdonald isn’t focusing on finishing at the summit of the OOM but admits it would be a nice extra at the end of the season.
“It’s really nice to have secured my LET card so there is no pressure this week, I’m just going to enjoy it and see what happens,” she continued.
“It would be great to win the Order of Merit – a nice bonus – but I’m not going to focus on that. I will just try and keep doing what I have been doing and see where I end up.”
Macdonald will tee it up on Wednesday at 13.44 alongside Austria’s Katharine Muehlbauer and Germany’s Helen Briem – who was a member of Europe’s winning PING Junior Solheim Cup team.
Plenty of LETAS winners are in the field this week including Flumserberg Ladies Open champion Nina Pegova, Anna Nordqvist Västerås Open champion Nayeon Eum, Swedish Matchplay Championship victor Sofie Bringner, Santander Golf Tour Zaragoza winner Rachael Goodall and Golf Flanders LETAS Trophy champion Lily May Humphreys.
Three LET cards for the 2022 season are still up for grabs with the top three in the OOM – Humphreys, Macdonald and Pegova – having already clinched their spots.
Bringner and Goodall currently sit in fourth and fifth place, with Emilia Tukiainen is in sixth, but Eum is not far behind in seventh while Verena Gimmy, Muehlbauer and Thalia Martin round out the top ten.
