Italians Sophie Sandolo and Margherita Rigon share the second round lead with Spain’s Ana Larraneta and Jade Schaeffer from France after two rounds at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open.
The players all finished at four over par after 36 holes on the Le Riou course at the superb Four Seasons golf resort in the hills behind Cannes.
Terre Blanche Golf Club is hosting a professional tournament for the first time and according to some of the players it’s a challenging course with tricky greens. A heavy west wind blew over the course on the first day and made it difficult for all the players, with none of the 60 competitors scoring par or better.
The best score on day two was recorded by 27-year-old Rigon (pictured), who is a full time member of the Ladies European Tour. Rigon carded a two under par 70 and is the only player to have broken par so far in the tournament.
Rigon, who is starting her seventh season on the LET, recorded a career best tie for 10th place at the 2009 Deutsche Bank Ladies Open and recently tied for 23rd place at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
Larraneta carded a round of 73, while Sandolo and Schaeffer both shot 74 to tie for the lead going into Friday’s final round. The first round leader, Rhian Wyn Thomas, added a 77 to her opening 73 and finished the day two shots off the lead at six over par. At the end of the day a cut was made to the leading 30 players and those tied for 30th place at 15 over par.
