France’s Anaelle Carnet holds a slender one-shot lead heading into the final round of the Santander Golf Tour Lerma after a bogey-free round of 68 (-4) catapulted her to the top of a tightly packed leaderboard at 10-under-par.
Starting the day in third place, the 26-year-old made light of the more difficult windy and cold playing conditions at Lerma Golf and added a flawless round of 68 to yesterday’s 66 to lead by one shot from a trio including current Order of Merit leader Tiia Koivisto, French amateur Agathe Laisne and local talent Mireia Prat.
“It is really exciting and I am looking forward to tomorrow, I still have one round to go so I don’t really want to think about what could happen but I am pleased with the way I am playing.”
Chasing her first professional victory on both the LETAS and LET, Carnet closed with a birdie to take the 36-hole lead and will look to her roommate to take her mind off the situation tonight.
“I always room with Lucie Andrade and we support each other every week, we practice together and live close to each other, so it is nice to have her to help take my mind off it tonight.”
Sitting just one shot adrift at nine-under-par and by contrast is French compatriot Agathe Laisne, who has experienced the emotions of winning as she captured her first professional title in a remarkable playoff at the most recent LETAS event at the Lavaux Ladies Open.
In only her second event on the LETAS, Laisne is looking to keep her 100% win record and commented: “I have been working with my coach back home and studying after every round before I head back to Texas for my final year, which has certainly helped keep my mind off the leaderboards and has helped me relax.”
Having finished birdie, eagle yesterday, he 21-year-old again finished with a flourish, making birdie at both the 17th and 18th holes to sign for a round of 70 (-2).
“I really like the sand wedge shot that I have had into the 17th hole on both days and the 18th really suits my eye. It’s a dog leg left with water between the green and fairway but I’ve been able to fly it over the water and despite going through the green today in to the bunker, I was able to get up-and-down.”
Finland’s Tiia Koivisto, who currently sits atop the LETAS Order of Merit, continued her consistent form with a round of 68 of her own as she aims to lock up the all-important first prize of a full LET card for 2021, which is awarded to the season-long Order of Merit winner. She is joined by Spanish talent Mireia Prat, who also signed for a 68.
Home favourite and overnight leader Luna Sobron was unable to produce the form on Wednesday’s first round but battled back with two closing birdies to record a level-par round of 72 and stay in contention, just two shots off the pace.
The final round cut fell at +5, with 61 players including 14 amateurs progressing to tomorrow’s final round.
