Local favourite Anne-Lise Caudal, who lives just a stone’s throw from the tricky Golf de la Nivelle, opened with a round of 66 to trail Maisongrosse by two shots. Caudal was joined at 4 under by the Netherland’s Marieke Nivard. A further stroke back at 3 under was 16 year-old Klara Spilkova from the Czech Republic, who finished in a tie for seventh at the LET’s Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco earlier this month.
France’s Camille Fallay and impressive young amateur Alexandra Vilatte were tied for 5th at 2 under par. San Sebastian’s Marina Arruti and French rookie Lucie Andre finished a further shot back at 1 under par.
The second round will commence at 8.26am.
