Emma Westin leads the field of 95 players from 16 countries that will contest the inaugural Onsjö Ladies Open in Sweden this week. The tournament gets under way from Thursday to Saturday at Onsjö Golf Club in Vänersborg.
The leading player on the Nordea Tour Ranking after the Onsjö Ladies Open will receive an invitation to play in the Ladies European Tour’s Helsingborg Open at Vasatarps Golf Club on 4-7 September.
Westin, from Bredareds Golfklubb, has the opportunity earn her ticket to the Ladies European Tour event as the recent Sölvesborg Ladies Open winner currently leads the ranking by 985.53 points over fellow Swede Isabella Ramsay, the top ranked player on the LET Access Series, from St Arild Golfklubb.
Swedes currently occupy the top four places on the Nordea Tour Ranking as Natalie Wille from Bro-Bålsta Golfklubb is in third spot while two-time LET Access Series tournament winner Emma Nilsson from Sölvesborgs Golfklubb, who won last week’s Ladies’ Norwegian Challenge, is close behind in fourth.
The large Swedish contingent is joined by Scotland’s Sally Watson, the Ladies European Tour’s leading rookie so far this season, as well as two of Spain’s most promising young amateurs. Luna Sobron, the winner of the recent European Amateur Championship who will represent Spain in the upcoming World Amateur Championship in Japan is joined by Natalia Escuriola, one of several players in the field who will attend LET Tour School in December.
Sweden’s Wille, who has won a title and posted a second place finish on the Nordea Tour, is also hoping to graduate to the Ladies European Tour next season.
She told the Nordea Tour website: “The goal is of course to come out in Europe. This fall my ambition is to pass the qualifiers. My game feels quite stable and this year my putting has improved.”
This is the first time that Onsjö Golfklubb has hosted the tournament and organiser Lennart Svensson commented: “There is great interest in the club, many people are engaged, and the municipality is positive so there will surely be a successful event.
“The course has never been so great and we have distributed some wild cards to local players, including Johanna Ericsson, born in Frankfurt, but who now plays for Drottningholm.”
Another fun element associated with the event is that Sandra Carlborg, triple world long driving champion, will give a clinic before participating in the tournament.
