A field of 120 players from 23 different countries will compete for the third title of the season at the ASGI Ladies Open, held at Golfclub Gams Werdenberg in Gams, Switzerland, from Thursday May 7 to Saturday May 9, with prize money of €30,000. The main sponsor of the tournament is the Association de Suisse de Golfeurs Indépendant (ASGI).
Fourteen Swiss players will feature in the field of competitors, including the three leading hopefuls Melanie Mätzler, Anaïs Maggetti and Caroline Rominger.
Mätzler has helped to set up the tournament at her home club with the help of her father, Guido and her sister, Monja, will also compete as an amateur.
The Swiss player has shown some strong form this year, finishing in 7th place at the LET’s Lalla Meryem Cup at Golf de L’Ocean in March. Her top ten placing will also give Mätzler a spot in the upcoming LET Turkish Airlines Ladies Open, played later this month at Carya Golf Club in Belek.
Anaïs Maggetti, from Golf Gerre Losone, home to the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open on the LET from 2006 to 2012, also finished in the top ten at the Lalla Meryem Cup and will be looking for her first victory on the LET Access Series.
A number of LET players competing this week include Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen, who finished 4th at the 2014 Lalla Aicha Tour School and is a two time Junior Ryder Cup team member. Pedersen opened her rookie season with a strong showing in the Lalla Meryem Cup, finishing in a tie for 20th place.
The field will also feature past winners on the LET Access Series, Anna Rossi from Italy, Austria’s Christine Wolf, Emma Nilsson from Sweden, Denmark’s Daisy Nielsen and last week’s champion, Scotland’s Michele Thomson.
There are 15 tournaments on LETAS this season and the goal for many of the competitors is to finish the season ranked within the top five on the Order of Merit to earn membership of the LET in 2015.
