Mireia Prat
This week’s Ribeira Sacra Patrimonio de la Humanidad International Ladies Open will see a field of 108 competitors from 25 different countries compete at Augas Santas Balneario and Golf Resort in Lugo, Spain.
Former champion, Spain’s Mireia Prat who won the title in 2013 and went on to top the LETAS final Order of Merit, will be one of 15 Spanish players teeing up in the three-round Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS) event.
The galleries will no doubt be hoping for a home grown winner and their hopes rest with Prat, Carmen Alonso, Virginia Espejo, Maria Beautell, Maria Palacios, Marian de Miguel, Patricia Lobato Moreno, Diana Vazquez Paredes, Piti Marinez Bernal, Gemma Fuster Englada, Carolina Gonzalez Garcia and the four amateurs in the field, 2014 European amateur champion Luna Sobron, Natalia Escuriola, Mayte Vicarrondo and Marta Munoz Jimenez.
Espejo is in top form coming into this week’s event after a runner-up finish in the opening event of the season, the Open Generali de Dinard at Dinard Golf in France.
The 5,142 metre, 18 hole golf course includes two par 5s, 11 par 4s and five par 3s with an overall par 70 and is situated on a thermal spa. The resort lies in a valley between the Central Orensano Mountains, while the Carabelos River comes into play on several holes.
