Emma Westin
Sweden’s Emma Westin extended her overnight lead to eight shots in the HLR Golf Academy Open, with a second round 68 and a 9 under par total.
The 23 year-old matched six birdies with three bogeys on the challenging Hillside Golf Course, to pull away from the rest of the field. Norwegian amateur Tonje Daffinrud and Jane Turner from Scotland are the only other players under par after scoring 70 and 71 respectively, on a chilly, clear day, to sit at one under par.
Westin has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in form, having only made one cut in the 11 events she competed in on the LET Access Series over the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The Swede has worked hard on her short game over the winter months and it has helped to launch her up to 6th place on the LETAS Order of Merit, with a wonderful opportunity to win her second event this season.
The top three players on the current LETAS Order of Merit, Sweden’s Isabella Ramsay, Lina Boqvist and Emma Nilsson all missed the 36 hole cut, giving Westin the chance to move into 2nd place with a win tomorrow.
At the end of the 2014 season, the top 5 players on the LETAS Order of Merit will earn their full LET cards for 2015, whilst players in 6th to 20th position will progress directly to the final stage of Lalla Aicha Tour School.
Finland’s Kaisa Ruuttila (72), Nina Muehl (72) from Austria and Norwegian Cecilie Lundgreen (71) are all tied at one over par in fourth place, with a group of five players, Finland’s Krista Bakker, Isabell Gabsa from Germany, Denmark’s Daisy Nielsen, Kiran Matharu from England and Maria Beautell from Spain, all tied at 2 over par and 7th position.
Forty-four professionals and six amateurs, five of whom are from Finland, made the cut, which fell at 8 over par. Play will commence at 8.00am for the final round from both the 1st and 10th tees.
