Mia Piccio from the Philippines won her first title as a professional at the Oca Augas Santas Ladies International Open, after shooting a final round 69, to win by one shot from Italy’s Vittoria Valvassori.
The 23 year-old from the Philippines came from three shots behind Sweden’s Lina Boqvist going into the final round. Both players, together with Italy’s Vittoria Valvassori played together in the final round and the battle for the title was extremely close going into the last few holes.
Valvassori drew within one shot of the leader Piccio with back to back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes. Piccio, held her nerve to par the last nine holes to win by one shot.
Piccio was delighted with her performance, “Today I played very well, hitting fairways and greens. Overall I have played well all week. I have really enjoyed my stay and the tournament was very well organised ”
Spain’s Tania Elosegui and overnight leader, Lina Boqvist, tied for third place at 4 under par. The Swede struggled on the final day to a 6 over par, 76. France’s Melodie Bourdy finished in 5th place at 3 under par.
The leading honours for the amateur went to Germany’s Franziska Friedrich with a final round of 68, finishing tied for 10th (+3)
The LET Access Series moves on to the Open de Generali Dinard, which takes place from the 13 – 15 June at Dinard Golf, Saint Briac Sur Mer, France.
