Viticulture & Golf together at the OCA Augas Santas International Ladies Open

The Sil hills in Galicia had some special visitors last Tuesday with the arrival of over 70 players from the LET Access Series.

Ahead of the OCA Augas Santas International Ladies Open, the Consorcio de Turismo Ribeira Sacra and the Council of Lugo offered the LETAS players the opportunity to enjoy a sailing trip along the “Sil” river and to visit the vineyards of the area where the wine recognised as “Ribeira Sacra” is produced. The grapes and wine production are particularly special in this area because of the shape and inclination of the hills where the vines grow and the wine is harvested, making it a really “Heroic Viticulture”. The protection of the vineyards from the river provides a microclimate in this area, with the south orientation of the steep slopes helping to ripen the grapes. The wines in this area, from Roman times, have been described as “Liquid Gold from Sil”.

Two days before the start of the OCA Augas Santas International Ladies Open, the players enjoyed the trip along the river and some typical food from the region. But they also had the opportunity to hit some golf balls from the boat towards some pin flags strategically situated in the vineyards. A unique experience to prove their accuracy while they sailed along the Sil. The perfect way to start a golf tournament: golf, relaxation and a perfect environment in the middle of nature.
