TORVUND OHMA COMES FROM BEHIND TO WIN FIRST PROFESSIONAL TITLE AT SWEDISH STROKEPLAY

Norway’s Silje Torvund Ohma came from behind to clinch her first professional and LET Access Series (LETAS) title at the Swedish Strokeplay event.

The 23-year-old fired a final round three-under 70 to finish six-under overall at Golf Uppsala Soderby to beat Denmark’s Cecilie Leth-Nissen (74) by two strokes.

Denmark’s Sarah Skovgaard Bils (74) and Germany’s Theresa De Bochdanovits (72) came another shot behind in a tie for third place, while overnight leader Clara Moyano Reigosa slumped to a five-over 78 to finish tied-ninth.

“Honestly, I don’t think it has sunk it yet,” Torvund Ohma said. “I’m just super happy. It’s crazy. I don’t know what to say. I’m out of words.

“I just turned professional two weeks ago. I just tried to hit a lot of fairways, a lot of greens.

“It was tough out there with lots of wind and some rain, so hitting those greens and holing those putts was important for me.

“I knew I put up a good score, but I didn’t know what all the other girls were gonna do, so I just tried to stay focused and play one shot at a time.”

Torvund Ohma is playing just her second LETAS event as a professional, after finishing tied-17th at last week’s PGA of Sweden Championship.

While she was playing her practice round earlier this week, she caught a glimpse of her golfing idol and fellow Norwegian Viktor Hovland beat Scottie Scheffler in a play-off for the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship.

“It was unbelievable,” she said. “I saw the play-off when I was playing my practice round out here and it was so cool to see him hole that last putt.

“I didn’t think about it, but it feels good to do it (like Hovland). It’s kind of crazy.”

While Torvund Ohma had her father’s company this week, she declined his offer to carry her bag this week.

“I’m not used to the caddy part yet,” she said.” It’s just what I’m used to and I wanted the transition from amateur to pro to be as similar as possible.

“I think it was good to just walk around here by myself and keep myself entertained.”

Beginning the day three shots adrift of overnight leader Moyano Reigosa, Torvund Ohma started with seven straight pars.

She dropped in her first birdie on the par-4 8th but gave it back with a bogey on hole 10.

Leth-Nissen briefly held the solo lead with seven holes to play, but Torvund Ohma heated up on her back nine with birdies on holes 12, 16 and 18 to see out the two-shot victory.

Torvund Ohma, who will now receive direct entry into the remaining 12 LETAS events in 2026, added: “My driver was really, really good, and also my putting. That’s always a good combination.

“Before this, I didn’t know what events I was gonna be able to participate in, but I guess I can start playing now.

“I think I’m gonna celebrate by going home, be with friends, watch Norway play the World Cup on Sunday. That would be great.”

It was another missed opportunity for Leth-Nissen, having also led during the final round at April’s Madaef Golfs Ladies Open, who double-bogeyed the par-4 17th to fall out of contention.

The Dane, 23, made the turn as the solo leader after birdies on holes four and nine, before adding another one on the 11th.

Further down the leaderboard, the quartet of Iceland’s Ragga Kristinsdottir (71), South Korea’s Ayeon Yang (73) and the Swedish pair of Moa Svedenskiold (71) and Emelie Borggren (76) finished at two-under overall in a tie for fifth.

Another shot back was Moyano Reigosa, Ireland’s Canice Screene (71), Iceland’s Hulda Gestsdottir (73), Germany’s Lisa Marie Schumacher (68) and Dutch amateur Anne-Sterre den Dunnen (74).

France’s Lauren Holmey (74) has retaken the lead in the Order of Merit standings after finishing even-par overall in a tie for 14th place with England’s Ellie Gower.

The LETAS season resumes next week in Manchester at the July 8-10 Women’s English Open, which features the second-highest prize pool (€80,000) of the year.
