BACKMAN LEARNED A LOT FROM FIRST SEASON ON LETAS

Anna Backman

Anna Backman is excited to return to the LET Access Series (LETAS) after completing her first full season in 2025.

The Finnish player secured her first LETAS victory at the Ladies Slovak Golf Open and ended the year 13th in the Order of Merit.

Backman has enjoyed the off-season at home but is excited to begin the LETAS season at the Madaëf Golfs Ladies Open in Morocco this week.

“I’m very excited. I have been waiting for this for the past couple of months waiting back home,” she said. “I was able to find my own game because it was my first full season on LETAS or any pro tour.

“I was able to find where I sit at, and I was able to make more of the shots I was hitting. I feel like that’s been an issue of mine that I hit pretty okay, but I can’t get the score done and I was getting closer to that last season.

“I learned a lot. You don’t know how it’s going to be playing 18 or so tournaments during the season. I did learn from myself that I do really want to play this game, and I want to give it a full go.”

Backman spent the off-season back home in Finland and also took a trip to South Africa to play some events on the Sunshine Ladies Tour.

One aspect of her game she’s been working hard on for the 2026 season is her approach shots.

She continued: “I practiced, I worked a little bit. In Finland, you can’t really be outside, so I was practicing in indoor facilities. For March, I went to South Africa and played three events on the Sunshine Ladies Tour.

“I enjoyed going to South Africa, I thought to myself that if I’m playing on LETAS in the future, I will go to South Africa again because I am very much more prepared for the LETAS season now. It was nice, the courses were great.

“I have just been trying to get my approach shots more focused – that’s been my biggest thing is to get them better.”

The LETAS season begins this week at Royal Golf de Fes in Morocco and Backman knows staying out of the rough will be important.

She added: “It is really good to see everyone again – it’s been too long! I feel like I like the golf course. From the tee it isn’t super challenging, you just need to get the ball in play.

“But I’d say you need to stay out of the rough on the greens and fairways. You never know what your lie is going to be. That’s the main thing and hitting the approach shots close. The goal is definitely to either win three events or be in the top seven to get on the LET.”

Backman will begin her title tilt in the first round at 8.52 am (local time) at the Madaëf Golfs Ladies Open by MSE.
