Spain’s Amaia Latorre is the player who has an outside chance of earning an LET card this week. With one event remaining on the 2025 LET Access Series (LETAS) calendar, Latorre is 11th on the Order of Merit and needs the win to potentially secure her LET card for the 2026 season.
Latorre made a bold and somewhat controversial decision. Following her appearance at the Rose Ladies Open she sat seventh on the Order of Merit but then she opted to spend two weeks competing on the LET to chase more LET status rather than solidifying her LETAS ranking.
Speaking about that decision, Latorre said; “Yeah, a lot of people talked about it. But it’s my dream. The LET is my dream, so I want to be there.
“So I just went and tried to play super well in Switzerland and Spain. It didn’t work out, but at least I tried.”
Despite playing only eight LETAS events this year, fewer than many of her competitors, Latorre has had a brilliant season.
Latorre’s season highlights include a victory at the Ahlsell Trophy by Destination Jönköping, and four additional top 10 finishes.
Latorre has history at Calatayud. Last year she finished third with rounds of 77, 66 and 65 so the Spaniard knows she can go low on the course.
“I’m delighted to be here; this is my special place. I just want to have a relaxed week and enjoy it, If I can do that, I’ll have a good tournament.”
Latorre is joined by her parents this week including her mum on the bag and her dad helping from the sidelines.
To move into the top seven on the Order of Merit, the cutoff for LET promotion, Latorre needs a win this week as she’s 282.96 points away from seventh place.
“I’m probably the player who played the fewest events this year, so I’m happy to still be in the top group.
“Of course, I know I need to win. It’s almost impossible, but I know I can. So, I’ll try my best and we’ll see what happens.”
“I feel at home here. This could be the place to do it. This week is about enjoying the people, the players, and the place.”
Latorre tees it up at 12:40 local time alongside Iceland’s Andrea Bergsdottir and Slovakia’s Michaela Vavrova.
