England’s Gemma Clews is excited to put in a strong performance at the Rose Ladies Open, held this year at Hanbury Manor Marriot Hotel and Country Club.
Clews has been leading the Order of Merit for the last few weeks since the Ladies Slovak Golf Open and the Manchester based player is looking to stay there.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated week Clews said: “I’ve really been looking forward to this event. I’ve never played at Hanbury Manor before this week, so it’s been nice to see a new course and I’m looking forward to starting this week.
“The Rose Ladies Open is always a great event on our schedule and Hanbury Manor is a nice venue and a great layout. Hopefully the weather plays ball and the rain stays away.”
Clews has enjoyed a two-week stretch in Great Britain and Ireland and has made the most of having support out on the course as we hit the crunch time of the season.
“I have a few friends coming over this week. My mum and dad will come down for the tournament days as well and a few other family members.
“There is some pressure with playing at home. It’s a lot tougher. You want to play well for everyone coming.”
It was a steady start to the season for Clews with three top 30 finishes before a win at the inaugural Allegria Ladies Open vaulted her up the leaderboards.
Since then, Clews has proved a model of consistency with a further six top 10 finishes.
The Manchester based player is knocking on the doors of another win. It’s been a fairytale season for Clews who is looking to regain the LET playing rights she lost last year.
“Winning the Order of Merit is the goal for the year, it has obviously changed a little bit with how the season has gone and it’s been going well.
“Staying on top is the goal. I will just try and keep doing what I’m doing and I will try and stay there.”
Clews tees it up at 13:14 local time alongside Iceland’s Andrea Bergsdottir and Australia’s Justice Bosio.
The Rose Ladies Open begins on September 5 and will see 108 players teeing it across 54 holes.
