MORA MAINTAINS TIGHT LEAD HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND AT MALAHIDE

Mora

France’s Anne-Charlotte Mora backed up yesterday’s round of 67 (-5) with a solid round of 70 (-2) today to carve out a one stroke lead heading into tomorrow’s final round of the Women’s Irish Challenge.

It was a strong front nine for Mora, who started on 10, with two birdies on the two par 5s, 11 and 15.

At the turn, Mora fired two bogeys and two birdies, including a seven foot walk off birdie to clinch the lead.

Speaking about round two, the overnight leader said: “I felt like today was tougher than yesterday. I just managed to make pars, and the par fives were my friends today. I’m happy with it.

“My long putting was my strength today. Although I don’t enjoy playing in the wind, I do think it’s better for me as it makes me focus more.

“It feels super cool to be up there. I’m excited about tomorrow and looking forward to playing.”

In 2022, Anne-Charlotte Mora claimed her maiden Ladies European Tour victory in dramatic style, producing a fine finish to win the Åland 100 Ladies Open by Alandsbanken.

Three years later she’s chasing her first LETAS victory.

“I enjoy leading, if everything goes my way that would be great. To get a win was a goal for this year so obviously it would be so cool.”

After a round of 71(-1) Germany’s Verena Gimmy finds herself one stroke off the lead heading into tomorrow’s final round in Ireland.

It was a shaky front nine of four bogeys and one birdie for Gimmy before she showed great resilience on the back nine to card four more birdies to climb back up the leaderboard.

Speaking about her round, Gimmy said: “The front nine was tough for me. I couldn’t really find momentum and struggled a little bit. I knew the back nine had three par fives which would give me opportunity.”

Like Mora, Gimmy has been out of the winner’s circle since 2022, where she clinched victory at the LETAS season finale, Santander Golf Tour Burgos.

“I think it’s better to chase. I’ve done it before I know I can do it again. It’s been three years, and I see that a lot of the things I have been working on are clicking.”

Gimmy has played a full season on the LET after earning her card back in December at Q School. The 2022 LETAS winner’s highest finish this season has been tied 28th at the Joburg Ladies Open.

“I just need to make sure I get off to a good start, keep hitting my targets and making sure I make the most of all the opportunities.

“The win would mean a lot to me. I have struggled this year. This week in coming here I wanted to make sure that I saw progress. I’ve seen that the last few days so I’m happy. So, we will see what happens tomorrow.”

Austria’s Isabella Holpfer sits solo third on four-under-par to be the last member of tomorrow’s leading group.

Four players are tied for fourth on two-under-par; France’s Lucie Andre, Australia’s Justice Bosio, Spain’s Maria Herraez Galvez and the USA’s Annika Borrelli.

58 players made the cut which stood at +6.

The final round will commence at 8:45am local time with the leaders going out at 10:35.
