Mireia Prat won the CostaBlanca Ladies Open, the penultimate event on the 2013 LET Access Series schedule, played at the Font del Llop Resort, near Alicante on Wednesday.
The Spaniard added her second title of the season, with a total of 226 (+10), after her first victory last May at the Ocho Golf Ladies Open Galicia. This victory also confirms her position at the top of the LETAS Order of Merit, with the last remaining event in Turkey next week.
Prat triumphed after a final round of level par, two less than England’s Holly Calvert and Italian Vittoria Valvassori and three ahead of France’s Marion Ricordeau. There was a battle during the final round between Ricordeau and Prat, who played together, that seemed more match play than stroke play.
Both players were tied after teeing off the 16th tee. On the 17th, Prat was leading by one shot and on the par five 18th, Ricordeau chose to go for the green with her second shot, coming up short in the water and finished with a double bogey, which handed the title to Prat. “The front nine have been very hard, with flags in very difficult positions, the wind was blowing and it was quite complicated. I knew that if I continued to play my game and do it well, I could have chances, but you never know with the wind. I have won but my feeling is that I could also have finished tenth instead”
“When this tournament was announced a month ago, all my Spanish friends were very excited and thrilled. For me in particular, I do not think it was the best, but now that I have won, I prefer not to say anything. The Font del Llop Resort course is good, and it was in very good condition for this tournament, very demanding and always challenging your game.”
The final event of the season, the Mineks Ladies Classic, played at the National Golf Club, near Antalya in Turkey, starts on the 28 November, after which the top five players will receive their playing rights on the Ladies European Tour for next season, with the next fifteen players on the LETAS Order of Merit progressing straight to the final stage of the LET Tour School.
