LETH-NISSEN LEADS HEADING INTO FINAL DAY IN MONTAUBAN

Leth-Nissen

Starting the day on four-under-par, Denmark’s Amalie Leth-Nissen produced a strong second round of 69 (-3) to take a one-shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final at the Montauban Ladies Open.

Leth-Nissen had a steady start of two pars before her first birdie putt rolled in on the third hole. Two more birdies on holes seven and eight put her into the solo lead.

At the turn, Leth-Nissen kept her cool to card another birdie on the 12th hole after a stunning approach shot left her with a two-foot putt.

A bogey on the 16th was the only blemish on her scorecard across the two days of competition.

Speaking about her round, Leth-Nissen said: I’m feeling pretty good. My game has been solid. So that’s nice. I’ve only made one bogey across two days. So, I’m feeling pretty good about my game right now.”

This is Leth-Nissen’s second time at Golf Du Montauban. In 2024 the Dane finished 44th and admits she prefers the course this year.

“I think I like Montauban a bit more this year. Everything is just a bit softer, and I think that fits the course well. I think the course is in really good shape this year.”

Leth-Nissen currently leads the LETAS Order of Merit by 150.58 points after two top 10 finishes and winning the LETAS season opener, the Terre Blanche Ladies Open, back in April.

She’s been no stranger to the final group this season but she’s excited to be there once again.

“Well, I think I’m just most of all trying to just focus on myself, even though it’s hard when you’re in one of the first groups.

“I just want to focus on my own game and just try to do as good as I can tomorrow and then we’ll see what happens.”

The Danish star turned professional after securing a place on the Ladies European Tour in December 2022 at the age of 18. As an amateur she rose as high as number 6 in the rankings.

Leth-Nissen’s father Christian is on the bag for her this week and the two are a practiced partnership but Amalie also credits her performance this week to her mum being out in France with her.

“I like being here and my mom is also with me this, week. So, it might also be something with that, but no, I like it here. So yeah, maybe there’s something about France after I won here before.”

Two players are tied for second on six-under-par, Japan’s Reina Fujikawa and France’s Charlotte Liautier.

Liautier currently leads the home talent after carding a fantastic second round of 68 (-4) to climb up the leaderboard by 10 positions.

Speaking about her round of five birdies and one bogey, Liautier said: Today was a good round. I made more putts compared to yesterday. So, I’m happy about that.

Liautier is relishing playing on home soil this week and is enjoying having her parents coming out to support.

“Having my parents this week out there watching is special because that doesn’t happen often out on Tour.

“Playing at home, is always something special. Sometimes it can be stressful, but sometimes it’s can really help you.”

After five events, Liautier sits sixth on the LETAS Order of Merit after recording three top five finishes and two top 30s.

The 26-year-old’s highest finish was third at the Madaef Golf’s Ladies Open in Morocco.

Tomorrow will be the first time the one-time LETAS winner has found herself in the leading group this season and she is excited.

“I just want to keep the same strategy., I’m not thinking about the results. I just want to keep pushing and hitting more fairway and more greens.

“It’s I think the first tournament of the year where I’ve played well in the first round. So, I think it will help to not have such a chase and a margin to make up.

“I will just try to do the same thing, and we’ll see what happens.”

France’s Emma Falcher, Poland’s Nicole Polivchak and Isle of Man’s Ana Dawson are tied for fourth on five-under-par.

Meanwhile five players are tied for seventh on four-under-par.

This includes LETAS rookie Australian Abbie Teasdale who carded the round of the day of 66 (-6) to climb around 50 positions up the leaderboard.

After 36 holes of action at Golf Du Montauban, 58 players made the cut which fell at two-over par, including 12 French players and seven amateurs.

The final round begins at 8:20am local time with the leaders going out at 11:30.
