Fabienne In-Albon
Switzerland’s Fabienne In-Albon opened up a four shot lead heading into the final day of the Azores Ladies Open, after an impressive four under par, 68 in tough, windy conditions at the Terceira Island Golf Course.
In- Albon started strongly with three birdies in a row to catch overnight leader, Germany’s Isabell Gabsa, who faltered slightly, scoring a three over par, 75 in the second round. The Swiss player completed the front nine in 3 under par and birdied the long par four 12th hole and the par five 17th before a bogey at the final hole. In-Albon felt a little unsettled on the 18th green, missing a two metre par putt because her marker stuck to her finger in the process of marking her ball and In-Albon feared she may receive a penalty, ” I should have gotten one putt, but I felt stressed by what happened. I am happy with the round because I’ve had a rib injury that stopped me from competing for two weeks and did not even know if I would be able to play when I got to the Azores.”
Gabsa, along with Sweden’s Antonella Cvitan and Martyna Mierzwa from Poland are tied for second place at level par, 144. Spain’s Mireia Prat, who leads the LETAS Order of Merit survived the cut, which fell at 8 over par and currently lies in 22nd place.
The third Azores Ladies Open concludes tomorrow, with the final round beginning at 09:30 am and the last group teeing off at 11:00 am.
