GET TO KNOW LETAS GRADUATE MEGAN DENNIS

England’s Megan Dennis had a sensational rookie season on the LET Access Series (LETAS) which culminated in her clinching an LET card for 2025.

From nearly quitting the sport two years ago to securing her card, getting full status on the LET was a dream come true for Dennis.

Before the Woburn player embarks on the next step in her career, get to know Dennis better…

It was a steady start to the season for Dennis, but the ball got rolling at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge where she finished tied third.

A week later in Spain at the Santander Golf Tour-Avila, Dennis secured another top five.

The middle of the season was tougher for Dennis who missed two out of four cuts, yet her hard work and determination paid off.

The graduate secured her first professional victory in front of a home crowd at the Get Golfing Women’s Golf Championship.

Reflecting on the emotional win, Dennis said: “I felt very grateful and fortunate to be able to play in front of a home crowd.

“Going into that week, it hadn’t even crossed my mind about winning. I was just aiming to go through each round as I normally would and stick to the game plan.

“To have everyone around me, friends and family at the same time was a lot of fun.”

Despite some nerves, Dennis finished the season strong with two more back-to-back top 10s in France and Switzerland to clinch her LET card.

“I think it has sunk in now,” Dennis admitted. “There was so much going on but now things have settled down, no I recognise what we’ve done and what we’ve worked so hard for.

Whilst most graduates have put down the clubs, Dennis a self-confessed workaholic has got straight back into practice.

“I had a lesson booked in a couple of days after we got back to Spain, so I was happy to get things going and keep working hard.

“I do really struggle to take time off. In the back of my head, someone’s always out there working harder than me.

“Yet I’m beginning to realise how important it is to rest. I’ve got a holiday booked to the U.S, so will take time off then.”

Dennis, who finished third on the Rookie of the Year list, achieved her one goal for the year and with it came all the feelings.

“It was a massive sense of accomplishment when you take a step back and look at the whole year.

“At the card ceremony when everyone was out the back of the clubhouse, I went to the front and facetimed my sister. I was a little bit emotional, and things started to settle in.

“I said to her how different this could have been for me two years ago.

“Had I not met certain people, my journey could have played out very differently.

Two years ago, Dennis was struggling with her golf and her dreams of becoming a professional became harder to chase.

After graduating college in 2022, Dennis struggled with returning home and finding a new routine and community.

“I graduated from college in 2022. I did five years. I came back and really struggled with the transition of moving back from America, not knowing many people and not having any community around me.

“I lost a sense of independence, and I wasn’t playing good golf. I was struggling mentally a lot.

“I would go to the driving range. I’d hit 20 or 30 balls, go back to my car and cry.

Then I would go to the short game area or putting green because I knew that they were the two things I could do well.

“Then I became so fortunate to meet a couple of great people at Woburn who were well connected. I changed coaches and then since then it’s been night and day different.

“Confidence comes from hitting good shots and I’ve worked hard to get my confidence back.”

College was a profound experience for Dennis, but her five years didn’t come without difficulty.

“College in America was always on my radar. I started out at Florida Tech.

“I played there for two years and then in our sophomore year, they announced that they were going to cut the women’s golf team due to funding.

“We ended up finishing by winning a national championship which was a really special way to sort of see the end of our time there.

“At the time it was really devastating but it was a blessing in disguise.

“Pepperdine was fantastic. The facilities, coaches and educating were amazing.

“Pepperdine made me improve and had such a big impact on my development going forward.”

Golf has been an obsession for Dennis since she was very young and her dad introduced her to the sport.

“My love of golf came from my dad. He has played since he was about seven.

“We were away on holiday, when I was about three years old.

“There was a little driving range there. He took me down there one day.

“I got one of his golf clubs, which was way too big for me, tucked it under my arm and just started hitting a few shots.

“I started doing group lessons and then when I was nine, I joined Woburn and then played there since then.

“I was the only person in my year group that played, and golf came outside of school.

“Sometimes it was difficult, but I think for some reason at such a young age, I was just so into it and golf would always come first.”

A big part of Dennis’ journey is her friendship with 2023 LETAS graduate, Hannah Screen who served as a massive inspiration for Dennis.

Screen’s time on LETAS was a big Cinderella story. Screen started the season with limited status but recorded strong results to finish the season with an LET card.

“Watching Hannah was so inspirational. I really respected her resilience throughout the whole year.

“We’ve grown up together, played tournaments together so I think it just shows that if you keep at it, you can keep working hard.”

Dennis can’t wait to embark on a new adventure on the LET, to visit new places and enjoy travelling to new places with close friend and graduate Billie-Jo Smith.

“My biggest goal next year is to keep my card and give myself the opportunity to play again. I also really want to enjoy it all too.”
