MAZARINO STAYING PATIENT AFTER CAREER HIGHLIGHT LAST WEEK

After three steady rounds of 70, Norway’s Tina Mazarino proved the fable right. Those who play steady win in the end.

It was a culmination of three hard years of work for the 24-year-old, who finally clinched her first professional victory at the Ladies Slovak Golf Open.

Reflecting on last week, Mazarino said: “It’s hard to have the time to reflect because it’s just go go go to the next tournament. But I went home, celebrated a little bit with my family and we are all just super happy.

“We’ve been working hard for this. I’ve spent the last three season on LETAS trying to get there and it finally all fell into place.”

Now Mazarino is keen to shift her focus to this week, to tee it up for the first time at the Get Golfing Women’s Golf Championship.

“I’ve soaked it all in but now I’m focussed on moving forwards to this week.

“We still have a job to be done but I’ve tried to give myself a clap on the shoulder and tell myself that I’ve done well.”

Mazarino finished 14th on the Order of Merit in 2022 but finished much further down in 41st last season after struggling mentally on the course.

This season, the Norwegian currently sits third and is looking to stay there, to clinch an LET card for the 2025 season.

“2023 I struggled mentally, so last Autumn I started working with a new phycologist and it has helped me a lot.

“This season I started on the Sunshine Tour and the goal was to find the joy of golf again. I’ve accomplished that. I’ve enjoyed the little moments as well as the big ones.”

“This week I just want to play steady and take one round at a time. That’s when I play my best.

“I’m trying to not think about my position on the LETAS Order of Merit too much.

“The end of the season is a marathon; in a month it will be all over. I’m in a good position and I want to keep it that way.”

This week Mazarino is accompanied by her caddie and boyfriend Robin and her father is also flying in to support.

Mazarino starts her campaign for back-to-back titles on Friday at 13:30 alongside Sweden’s Anna Magnusson and Welsh amateur Darcy Harry.
