CLEWS READY TO DEFEND TITLE IN DENMARK

England’s Gemma Clews is making the most of the schedule break on the LET to return to Smorum Golf Club to defend her title.

The Manchester based player, who recently placed second at the AIG Women’s Open pre-qualifier on her home course, graduated from the LET Access Series (LETAS) last year but is incredibly excited to be back.

“I’m really excited to be here. I was excited when I saw we had a week off from the LET Schedule.

“I’ve always been made to feel very welcome here so I’m ready to try and defend my title.”

Clews’ LET season has seen mixed results so far but her game is trending after a strong tournament finishing T-35 at the Dutch Ladies Open.

“This year in Denmark I just want to have fun. I struggled at the start of the year and my game’s been trending recently so I thought I would keep playing and try to get some good vibes back.

“At the beginning of the year I struggled, I’ve done a few different things in the off-season that didn’t quite work.

“Then the last few months, I’ve been going back to a few old things and a few new things and it’s working well.”

Nevertheless, 2024 has been a fantastic experience so far for Clews who has relished every opportunity on the bigger stage.

Talking about her favourite moments so far, Clews said: “South Africa was my favourite experience so far. Cape Town was amazing. The Gulf Coast was good. Australia was cool as well. Seeing kangaroos, that was very nice.”

Clews gets her title defence underway at 8:30am tomorrow morning alongside the number three ranked player Ariane Klotz and local favourite 2024 PGA Championship winner Natacha Host-Husted.
