The LET Access Series (LETAS) season fully gets underway this week as we return to France for the Montauban Ladies Open.
Always a favourite on the calendar, this year’s tournament promises to excite with a strong field and great weather.
Before the tournament gets underway on Friday, here are a few talking points to look out for…
PREVIOUS CHAMPION GRIFFAUT MAKING HER PROFESSIONAL DEBUT
Three years ago, a Texas State freshman took the Montauban Ladies Open by a storm coming from behind to clinch victory at her first professional event, an event she only entered the week before.
France’s Marine Griffaut now returns to the tournament for her professional debut.
Building on her top-10 finish last year, Griffaut hopes to impress this year at a tournament that now feels like home.
BRIEM FLYING IN FROM SUCCESS IN SWEDEN
Straight from a successful week in Sweden, German amateur Helen Briem is teeing it up in Golf du Montauban.
The 18-year-old narrowly missed out on winning the Dormy Open Helsingborg. After a spectacular low-scoring third round of 64, the amateur lost out in the play-off against French LPGA player Perrine Delacour.
The two-time Ping Junior Solheim Cup winner is not the only star amateur playing this week with Ireland’s Sara Byrne and 2022 winner, India’s Avani Prashanth also in the field.
TWO GROUPS OF SISTERS TEEING IT UP IN MONTAUBAN
Remarkably two sets of sisters are in the field this week. New Zealand’s Munchin and Wenyung Keh are both hoping for magic in Montauban.
The Leth-Nissen sisters are also playing on LETAS this year. The pair went down in history at the 2022 Smorum Ladies Open when Cecilie lifted the trophy and younger sister Amalie, who is professional finished runner-up.
COMING FROM A LAND DOWN-UNDER
The start of the summer swing means the return of the Australians escaping their winter and hoping to make their mark in Europe.
Ones to watch are Kelsey Bennett, winner of this year’s ‘The Athena’ on the WPGA and Stephanie Bunquee.
THE STORY BEHIND THE MONTAUBAN LADIES OPEN TROPHY
Whilst all players are focussed on lifting the trophy, the trophy itself has an interesting story.
The trophy is a bust of Olympe de Gouges, famous for writing the Declaration of the Rights of Woman, this prominent figure was born in Montauban.
It is fitting that the future icons of the women’s game lift another female icon
