Danish amateur out in front at Samso Ladies Open

                                                   Nicole Broch Larsen

Danish amateur Nicole Broch Larsen opened up a significant three stroke lead going into the final round of the Samso Ladies Open in Denmark.

The Hillerod GK member carded a second successive round of 70 at Samso Golf Club, located on a beautiful island west of Copenhagen, to finish on a 36-hole total of four under par in the 54-hole event.

She was three strokes clear of Scotland’s Katy McNicoll, Swede Antonella Cvitan and first round leader Corie Hou of Australia, with Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell and LETAS Order of Merit leader Marion Ricordeau on level par.

Broch Larsen dropped a shot at the first but made her score with three birdies on the front nine at holes three, four and nine. She was level on the back nine after compensating for two bogeys on 10 and 12 with birdies on 14 and 16.

The 2011 Turkish Amateur Open champion could become the second amateur to win on the LET Access Series after Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell triumphed at the Ljungbyhed Park PGA Ladies Open in May.

However, McNicoll could become the third Scottish winner on the Access Series this year, following Pretswell and Carly Booth, who won the Dinard Ladies Open in April.

The tournament has been played in a Pro Am format for the first two rounds as part of the ‘Pink Cup’ in aid of the breast cancer charity, with each pro or elite amateur playing with three amateurs. After Friday’s cut, only the reduced field of elite competitors will play Saturday’s final round.
