Scotland’s duo Tara Mactaggart (pictured above) and Hannah McCook are looking forward to teeing it up in their home country for the Trust Golf Links Series – The Musselburgh Golf Club.
The tournament will see 59 players compete from July 14–16 near Edinburgh for a purse of 40,000 EUR.
Five spots for the AIG Women’s Open Final Qualifier will also be up for grabs and the top two players from both Trust Golf Links Series events will receive an invitation to the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open.
Both Scots are yet to clinch their maiden win on the LET Access Series, with McCook in 10th and Mactaggart in 16th place in the LETAS Order of Merit.
Mactaggart finished T6 in last week’s Trust Golf Links Series at Ramside Hall GC and relishes the opportunity to compete even closer to her home.
“I’ve never actually played a professional event in Scotland so I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead. Having support from home this week will be very exciting.
“I think this is one of the best parkland courses in the area and if the wind gets up it’s gonna be a tough test because some of the tee shots are quite tight,” commented the local star.
The 26-year-old has three top 10 finishes to her name in her second professional season.
“In the last few events, I got off to a slower start and then played decent in the other two rounds to get myself up there. If I can get myself to a fast start, then who knows what could happen.”
Mactaggart and McCook share more than just the same flag next to their names as they both played golf together at the University of Stirling.
“We’ve been great friends ever since we were probably 11 years old and to go through the ranks of the Scottish golf teams, play university golf together, and to now be up there on LETAS is really amazing,” commented Mactaggart.
Aberdeen native McCook is equally excited to play in Scotland as it can put her in a comfortable situation while on the chase after the top six ranking by the end of the season which will secure a full LET card for 2023.
She said: “It feels nice to play at home, I haven’t played a solely female pro event here yet so to finally have the chance is great.
“I have played so many golf courses around this area so I’m sure it will be nice. I guess just having the surroundings of home will be good for me this week.”
The 28-year-old has put herself in contention on a few occasions this year, finishing runner-up in Montauban, T4 in Saint-Omer a fortnight ago, and leading after the opening round last week.
“It’s quite funny because my scores have been good, but it doesn’t feel like it’s been amazing. I talked to my coach over the weekend, and I need to keep the ball flight lower again this week. We will see what happens.”
In the field for the tournament will also be last week’s champion Chanettee Wannasaen from Thailand as well as the LETAS Order of Merit leader Chiara Noja of Germany.
The opening round will go underway on Thursday morning at 8:30 local time.
