Skarpnord takes second round lead at Ladies Norwegian Challenge

Marianne Skarpnord moved to the top of the leader board after the second round of the Ladies Norwegian Challenge at Hauger Golf Club in Oslo on Thursday.

The 26-year-old from Sarpsborg in Norway added a bogey-free six under 66 to her opening 73 to end the day at five under par in total.

First-round leader Camilla Lennarth of Sweden added a two over 74 to her opening 68 to end three strokes back on a two under total.

Meanwhile Sweden’s Maria Ohlsson and Rachel Bell of England were two shots further behind on level par.

Skarpnord, considered the favourite going into the tournament, birdied the third hole and then eagled the par five fifth for a three under outward total of 33.

She then picked up three birdies on the back nine at holes 11, 14 and 17.

After two wins on the Ladies European Tour in 2009, at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open at Carta Si Ladies Italian Open, Skarpnord suffered an injury but has enjoyed a successful season on the LET so far where she is ranked 19th on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit.

Her best result of the season was a tie for second at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, followed by a tie for 17th in New Zealand and she will be tough to catch in Friday’s final round.
