2020 REWIND: LETAS WINNERS

With the 2021 LET Access Series season less than a month away, we reflect on last year and look at who triumphed in 2020.

Sanna Nuutinen

The first event in last year’s schedule was the Flumserberg Ladies Open where Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen claimed her third career LETAS win.

After trailing for the duration of the final round, Nuutinen started the day two shots behind and with opening back-to-back bogeys fell further adrift.

However, three consecutive birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes followed by a further three on holes 11, 12 and 13 saw her draw level.

On the 18th hole, the fearless Finn made a 5m birdie to make the sudden-death play-off against Stina Resen but it was Nuutinen who came out on top.

Tiia Koivisto

There was another Finnish victory in the second event of the year, but this time it was Tiia Koivisto who claimed top honours at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge.

A final round of 68 (-4) saw Koivisto seal a two-shot victory with a score of nine-under-par at Prague City Golf Club.

The Finn began the day two-shots adrift of overnight leader Cara Gainer but got off to the best start when she recorded birdies on the opening two holes.

An eagle at the fourth hole, as well as birdies on the sixth and 10th meant Koivisto led by four strokes, but a couple of bogeys and a resurgence from Gainer saw it come down to the final hole but the Finn rolled in a par putt to clinch her first LETAS title.

Agathe Laisne

French amateur Agathe Laisne pulled off a stunning seven-shot final round comeback to secure the Lavaux Ladies Open in Switzerland.

In her first LETAS event, Laisne recorded a final round of 68 (-4) with a birdie on the last and set the clubhouse lead. She went into a play-off with fellow French compatriot Agathe Sauzon and Slovenia’s Pia Babnik, but it was the amateur who triumphed.

One month later Laisne was back in the winner’s circle as she claimed her second title in three events at the Santander Golf Tour Lauro.

The 2020 season finale finished with a washout as tournament organisers had to call time on the third and final round. Despite being in the middle of the 12th fairway Laisne, having made 11 straight pars to start her round, was awarded the victory.

Luna Sobron Galmes

In the penultimate event of the season, Spanish star Luna Sobron Galmes survived a thrilling eight-hole play-off at the 2020 Santander Golf Tour Lerma.

A final round of 68 (-4) left her tied at the top at 12-under-par alongside compatriot Mireia Prat and Anaelle Carnet, who led overnight.

All three players produced a series of stunning shots and clutch putts. Sobron eventually got the better of Prat and Carnet on the eighth play-off hole when she recorded her seventh birdie of the contest to claim her third LETAS career-trophy.
