Wikstrom Wins EVLI Ladies Finnish Open

                                                                                           Ursula Wikstrom

Starting the day three shots back, Ursula Wikstrom won her maiden title on the LET Access Series at the €35,000 EVLI Ladies Finnish Open, with a final round 66.

Wikstrom steered two shots clear of her nearest competitors Charlotte Thompson of England and fellow Finn Sanna Nuutinen, to win on home soil, at Hillside Golf Club in Vihti.

Opening rounds of 71, 67 put her in the hunt before a final day charge. A relatively quiet front nine included two birdies against one bogey. Beginning on the par three 12th, Wikstrom put together a run that read birdie, eagle, par, birdie before closing with three straight pars.

For the week, Wikstrom had twelve birdies and one eagle against five bogeys. Speaking after her round, she said “I hit few good wedges and my putter behaved nicely the whole week.”

In 207 starts on the Ladies European Tour, Wikstrom has five runner-up finishes, including two in Finland.

Thompson shot a final round 68 to move up one spot to second place while Sanna Nuutinen (71, 67) shot a closing 69 to stay in second place.

The overnight leader from Columbia, Laura Sanchez Zuluaga opened her third round with two birdies in the first three holes. From there however, she struggled with three bogeys and a double bogey to finish with a closing 75 – tied eighth with England’s Meghan Maclaren and Swede Linda Wessberg.

Anna Backman from Finland finished as leading amateur, with rounds of 70, 71 and 70 for a two under par total and a tie for 11th place.

After a week’s break, the LET Access Series heads to the Czech Republic for the €40,000 Foxconn Czech Ladies Challenge at the Casa Serena Golf Club, in Kutna Hora (June 22-23).
