A sprinkling of birdies in her second round, helped defending champion Ursula Wikstrom rise to the top of the leaderboard at the Viaplay Ladies Finnish Open.

Wikstrom started the day in a tie for 7th place and teeing off from the 10th tee, the Finn promptly recorded birdies on two of the first three holes. Bogeys on the 13th and 16th brought Wikstrom back to even par for the tournament. Further birdies followed on the 17th and the 1st, followed by a bogey on the 4th. The 38-year-old finished strongly with three birdies in her last four holes for a four under par, 68 and two round total of 140.

Overnight leader Laura Fuenfstueck had the worst of starts with a double bogey on the 10th, her opening hole. The German then produced four birdies in the last seven holes of the back nine to reach 6 under par. The homeward nine was a struggle for the 24-year-old, a bogey on the 4th and a double bogey on the 7th, added up to a one over par 73 for a two round total of 141.

Sweden’s Emma Nilsson is tied with Fuenfstueck in second place on 3 under, with rounds of 69 and 72.

One shot further back is VP Bank Ladies Open champion, Noemi Jimenez, who has recorded matching 71’s to sit in a tie with Finn Sanna Nuutinen, who matched her fellow countrywoman, Wikstrom, with a 68, for a 2 under par total.

The cut for the final day fell at +7, with 48 professionals and seven amateurs making the cut. The leading Finnish amateur is Krista Junkkari, currently lying in a tie for 9th going into the final day.
