Sweden’s Emma Westin continued her strong form in 2014 with an opening round of 65, 6 under par in the HLR Golf Academy Open at Hillside Golf & Country Club in Vihtii, Finland.

Westin opened with four straight birdies from the 10th to the 13th, followed by further birdies on the 18th, 6th and the 8th. Just one bogey came on the tough par four 7th hole. Westin, already a winner this year on LETAS at the Sölvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson, will be hoping for a strong finish this week to move back into the top 5 on the LETAS Order of Merit.

Denmark’s Daisy Nielsen shot a 3 under par 68, to lie in 2nd place. The young Dane enjoys the Hillside Golf Course, finishing fifth in last year’s edition of the HLR Golf Academy Open. Nielsen is enjoying a solid year with two top 10 finishes in her last three events to sit 9th on the Order of Merit.

Scotland’s Jane Turner shot 70, finishing strongly with three birdies on her final three holes. Turner, playing in her rookie season will be looking to improve on her best finish this year, tied 21st at the Kristianstad Ahus Ladies PGA Open in May.

Ten players are tied at even par 71, Tamara Scheidegger (Switzerland), Ida Kaukinen and Kaisa Ruuttila (Finland), Laura Murray (Scotland), Kiran Matharu (England), Isabella Ramsay (Sweden), Maria Beautell (Spain), Tonje Daffinrud (Norway), Nina Muehl and Cristine Wolf (Austria).

Play for the second round will commence at 8.00am from both the 1st and 10th tees.
