Australia’s Justice Bosio and Iceland’s Andrea Bergsdottir share the lead on seven-under-par heading into the final round of the Santander Golf Tour-Avila.
Rookie Bergsdottir, who started on the 10th, got off to a hot start rolling in a birdie on the first before another one dropped on the 15th. Two more birdies and one bogey on the front nine completed her scorecard.
“It’s been two fun days of playing steady golf and I’m happy,” Bergsdottir said.
“Avila is quite short; you have a lot of opportunities with wedges in hand and it’s a fun course. It’s kind of tricky from the tee, and there are a lot of opportunities to make putts.
“I’m usually very strong from the tee, so that helps a lot this week and to make some good putts as well. So, I would say the course plays to my strengths.
Speaking about being in the leading group for the first time on Tour, Bergsdottir said: “I’m just excited about it. I will try to do the same thing I’ve been doing the past two days and be relaxed and just committed to the shots.”
Bergsdottir has had a steady but enjoyable start to her rookie season with her highest finish being tied 23rd at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open.
“Tour is fun, but it’s a lot of travel and a lot of stuff you must do on your own. Coming from college, you have basically everything organized for you.
“So that’s a change for sure, but I love traveling around seeing different places and even though it’s stressful at times, it’s really fun.”
Despite growing up in Sweden, Bergsdottir is proud to play under the Icelandic flag, where her parents are originally from.
“Not a lot of golfers on Tour are from Iceland, but it’s for sure fun to be one of them.”
Overnight leader Justice Bosio had a steadier start with a bogey on the first but soon brought yesterday’s stellar short game back with a birdie on the sixth and two more birdies on holes 11 and 15.
Speaking about her round, the 21-year-old said: “I started off with a three putt, which wasn’t how I had planned to start, especially on a par five.
“However, I knew that there were birdie opportunities out there and obviously still 17 holes to play, so I kept calm and played the golf that I have been playing, and I knew the birdies would come.
“Being in the final group will be exciting. It’s only my second event on LETAS so it’s good to be putting myself into contention and we’ll just go out there and get after it tomorrow.”
Bosio has arrived for her first Tour season in Europe with one goal, to earn her LET card for 2026.
“Top seven is the end goal. I’ve obviously put myself a little bit behind the eight ball only starting last week and a few girls have already played four events. But the last two weeks have been a good start.”
Bosio turned professional at the end of last year after a successful amateur career where she reached as high as 48th in the Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings and showed her game last week at the Allegria Ladies Open by battling her way into the top 10.
“Last week was a big mental grind. I was sick and then the weather was challenging. So, it was a big mental grind.
“Starting with a four-over-par in the first round and then coming back to finish top 10, I think was good and gave me confidence.”
Netherland’s Lauren Holmey and Italy’s Emma Lundgren tied for third on six-under-par.
Lundgren fired the lowest round of the day of 66(-6) to jump up 40 positions in the rankings.
Spanish talent lies behind them with Paz Marfa Sans and Maria Herraez Galvez finishing tied fifth on four-under-par.
Also tied fifth is Denmark’s Cecilie Leth-Nissen, Norway’s Karoline Lund and England’s Rosie Belsham.
48 Players made the cut which stood at +1.
The final round begins 8:30 am local time with the leaders going out at 9:50am.
