Julie Tvede
Denmark’s Julie Tvede shot an impressive 71 in the 2nd round of the Mineks Ladies Classic to lead by four shots from Spain’s Mireia Prat.
The 33 year-old from Copenhagen matched her first round score but today’s 71 was played in difficult conditions, with strong winds gusting up to 25 kph.
The National Golf Course showed its teeth with only four players in the field able to break par. Tvede was bogey free on the front nine, scoring a solitary birdie on the 315 yard par four 6th, before bogeys on the 10th and 13th took the Dane back to 1 under total. The 2010 Murcia Ladies Open champion finished strongly with three birdies in a row from the 14th to 16th holes to take her four ahead.
Spain’s Mireia Prat, who has already claimed the 2013 Order of Merit title, shot a one-under 72 to be at level par. The 24 year-old Spanish player will be in pursuit of her third victory this season.
Overnight leader Heather Macrae faltered slightly with a 5 over par, 78 to be tied with Sweden’s Louise Larsson (75) and Chloe Leurquin (71) from Belgium. Leurquin, currently lying 7th on the Order of Merit and just less than 400 points behind fifth placed Macrae, will be hoping for a top three placing to earn her playing rights on the Ladies European Tour for next year.
Several players are well positioned to displace Switzerland’s Fabienne In-Albon and Macrae from the fourth and fifth positions on the Order of Merit, which guarantees automatic qualification to the LET for next season.
In-Albon birdied the final hole to make the cut and will be chased tomorrow by Germany’s Steffi Kirchmayr, Italian Elisabetta Bertini, Norway’s Caroline Martens and Chrisje de Vries, all who are lying in the top 10 in this week’s event.
Tomorrow’s final round will tee off at 9am, with 25 professionals and one amateur, Gabriella Cowley making the final’s days play.
