Winning in her home country, Sweden, at the Vasteras Open by Elite Hotels would be a dream come true for Emma Thorngren.
The 26-year-old from Linkoping has had a strong start to the year carding three top 10 finishes and narrowly missing out on the win at Santander Golf Tour-Girona in a five-way playoff.
Speaking about playing in Sweden, Thorngren said: “It’s amazing, I love it.
“I feel like all golf courses we play in Sweden are kind of similar, there’s some with open fields, some with woods but the vibe is similar.
“The course this week is a lot of fun, the greens are good, it’s a bit dry but its dry everywhere in Sweden right now.
“It seems a fun course, I haven’t played here before, but I like coming to new places so I’m glad we are here.”
Thorngren is currently ranked seventh in the LETAS Order of Merit with 487.25 points.
This places Thorngren as the highest-ranking Swede after five tournaments but she is hoping after this week to move up the ranks to a coveted top six position.
“I feel good going into this week,” Thorngren said, “I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing and try not to think about results too much.
“It’s easier said than done.”
It’s not the first time playing at home this year for Thorngren as the Swede put in an impressive performance at the Helsingborg Open, a Ladies European Tour (LET) event at the start of this month.
Thorngren carded rounds of 71, 69 and 71 to finish in eighth place tied with India’s Dikshar Dagar, the two-time LET winner.
“In Sweden at Helsingborg, I played well because for the first time I felt like I belonged there.
“I’ve always looked up to some girls on the big tour and felt like their way better than I am, but it’s nice to see that I’m up there and can compete on that level as well.
“I’ve not done a lot of practice this week since the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge, just rest and catching up with friends and family.
“It’s been a good break and I felt like I needed it as it’s been three weeks in a row, and I was very tired after Czech.
“My season so far has been solid and consistent, I still feel like I have more in me, I’m just going to stay patient.
“It would be amazing to get the trophy, I don’t think I could describe that feeling, it would be a dream come true.”
The Vasteras Open by Elite Hotels tees off at Fullerö Golfklubb at 8:00 on Thursday.
Thorngen will start her campaign at 13:00 local time in the company of fellow Swede, My Leander and France’s Chloe Salort.
