Denmark’s Puk Lyng Thomsen is excited to tee it up in Vasteras this week for her first event of the season.
In 2023, Lyng Thomsen secured her first professional victory with a four-shot lead at the Vasteras Open by Elite Hotels.
Now she’s teeing it up down the road at Sherike Golf Club to start off her 2025 season.
Speaking about Sherike, Lyng Thomsen said: “The course this week is in great conditions. It is not the hardest, but you do need to be very precise on a few holes.
“I think this week’s challenge is going to be the wind, because the course is completely open.”
Lyng Thomsen starts her season later than most due to prioritising her education at the first half of the year.
The Dane has been studying for a bachelor’s degree in business economics at Aalborg University whilst balancing professional golf for the last few years but has began to struggle with it towards the end of last year.
“I’ve always loved playing in Sweden, and now I’ve finished my bachelor’s degree, I can now return to the Tour with golf as my focus.
“Also, off the course I have a good feeling with this area, having won a tournament two years ago in Füllero golf club.”
Lyng Thomsen’s rookie year on LETAS was successful but also heartbreaking. She finished 8th on the Order of Merit rankings and just missed out on an LET card.
The 27-year-old hasn’t had the easiest journey in her career, whilst an amateur the Dane achieved a career best ranking of 13 on WAGR but a severe back injury that required surgery meant no play during the 2020 and 2021 season.
“My goal this year is to enjoy playing out there and be curious on my golf game. With that I mean, I want to make space to improve some things in my game during the season.
“Playing professional golf, you play many tournaments over the season and it is easy to get into “survival mode”. That I will try to avoid this year. I want to focus on my game more than forcing the results and ranks. Good results will come.”
Lyng Thomsen tees it up at 8:44 local time alongside England’s Ellen Hume and Swedish amateur Hannah Kono.
