Charlotte Thompson
England’s Charlotte Thompson shot a second round of 70 to take a two shot lead into the final day of the Sölvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson.
The Englishwoman birdied the 10th, 13th, 16th and 17th holes for an impressive four under on her opening nine holes. Thompson faltered slightly on the way home with bogeys at the tricky 3rd and 4th holes on the challenging Sölvesborg course.
“It’s very tight, it plays to my advantages. I can use the par 5’s to get back shots and attack some of the long par fours.”
The 23-year-old feels quite comfortable at the head of the field going into the final day.
“I will just keep the same mentality and see what happens when you go out there. Keep the game plan exactly the same on every hole. I wouldn’t change anything and shoot as low as I can.”
Thompson’s closest challenger will be Sweden’s Lynn Carlsson, who shot the round of the day, 65, seven under par, for a 4 under par total and second place.
Lying in third at three under is Spain’s Natalia Escuriola (71). The 25-year-old amateur is seeking her second win this season on the LET Access Series and hoping to make up some ground on the leader of the order of merit, Olivia Cowan, who is missing this week’s event.
Three players, Michele Thomson (72) from Scotland and fellow Swedes Helena Callahan (69) and Lina Boqvist (66) are all tied for 4th place at 2 under par.
The final round will commence at 8.07 am on Saturday morning.
