Charlotte Thompson
England’s Charlotte Thompson shot a course record 63, 8 under par, in the second round of the Norrporten Ladies Open, at Sundsvall Golf Club in Sweden.
Thompson was pleased to record her first bogey free round, which included eight birdies to take a four shot lead early on the second day. The long hitting Englishwoman credited her improved short game and course management for her record breaking score.
“For me it’s not very long so it’s an advantage to me that I don’t have to hit driver off the tee, so I can make sure I’m in play. And the par 5’s I can reach most of them in two so I just played to my strengths really. I’ve just been quite sensible where I’ve hit it off the tee”, Thompson commented.
“I’ve putted really well the last two days so that’s probably where I’ve benefitted. It was maybe slightly easier today because of the wind. It was quite windy yesterday. And it’s just getting to know the course. Every day you play it, something’s new. I hit it much better into the greens today than I did yesterday.”
Thompson is looking for her first professional win but doesn’t plan to push too hard tomorrow in the final round.
“I think I am slowly learning for myself that a win is on its way, it’s just whether it happens this week, next week or three months down the line. I’ve just got to keep trying to keep doing what I’m doing, keep things the same and go out with the same attitude really.”
Thompson’s closest challenger is Jenny Haglund of Sweden, who shot another 69 for a 4 under par total. Swedish amateur Tilda Larsson (70) and Sarah Schober (68) of Austria are tied at 2 under par, 140.
Forty-three professionals and seven amateurs made the cut, which fell at +6.
