THE SCANDINAVIAN SWING IS UNDERWAY ON LETAS

Scandinavian Swing

It’s the start of summer which means only one thing on the LET Access Series (LETAS), it’s the beginning of the Scandinavian swing.

During June, July and August, LETAS has five co-sanctioned events with the Ahlsell Nordic Golf Tour starting with the MoreGolf Mastercard Open.

Varbergs GolfKlubb is the host this week, the venue was used last year at the Big Green Egg Swedish Open which was cut short to 18 holes due to the weather.

Yet with the weather currently looking optimistic, here’s hoping that our players enjoy three full rounds on the stunning Tommy Nordström-designed Västra course.

Here are a couple of talking points for this week…

A SWEDISH TAKEOVER

40 percent of the field this week will be Swedish players, a testament to the home-grown talent of the country.

With Swedish stars like Linn Grant and Maja Stark having come through the Ahlsell Nordic Golf Tour events, it shows that this is the breeding ground for future stars.

Some names to look out for this week are Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall and Isabell Ekstrom.

Kajsa Arwefjall

Arwefjall, who turned professional a month ago won the 2021 GolfUppsala Open as an amateur after beating fellow countrywoman Sofie Bringner.

After two top five positions in her first two starts on LETAS this season, including a runner-up position at the Santander Golf Tour-Avila, Arwefjall is knocking on the doors for another win.

Meanwhile Ekstrom has had a strong season too, playing in the first two events in France, the 26-year-old has recorded two top-10 finishes and is dreaming of a first win.

ORDER OF MERIT UPDATE

With German amateur Helen Briem not playing this week, all eyes are focussed on who will be the next to enter the winner’s circle.

After four events, the Order of Merit is shaping up to be competitive, but not at the top as 18-year-old Briem has a 961-point lead.

Sweden’s Anna Magnusson sits second on 539.00 points but is not teeing it up this week so there is plenty of chance for lower-ranked players to climb the rankings.

The MoreGolf Mastercard Open gets underway on the 27th June and sees 132 players tee it up for a £40,000 prize fund.
