A field of 119 elite female golfers have assembled at Sölvesborg Golf Club in Sweden this week to compete in the Sölvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson, taking place on May 22-24.

Sunesson, best known for being Nick Faldo’s caddie from 1990 to 1999, will act as the ambassador for the tournament and will share her experiences with guests of the Pro-Am.

The tournament, which features on both the LET Access Series and Nordea Tours, is the second of five events in Sweden and Norway this season and will see a large contingent of 53 Swedes teeing up. They include 18-year-old amateur Linn Andersson, who prevailed in a play-off against Norwegian Caroline Martens and England’s Ellie Givens at last week’s Kristianstad Ahus Ladies PGA Open.

Competition will be fierce with players from 18 different countries worldwide, including most of Europe and as far afield as the USA and Australia.

Spanish duo Mireia Prat and amateur Patricia Sanz-Barrio, ranked first and second on the LETAS Order of Merit respectively, will be in Solvesborg along with fifth ranked professional Monica Christiansen from Denmark. They are currently ideally positioned to earn one of the top five exemptions available to the 2014 Ladies European Tour season.

The tournament week starts with the Pro-Am on Tuesday where Sunesson will mix with the sponsors and share experiences of caddying and her skills as tournament director at the Volvo World Golf Challenge in South Africa.

Sunesson has no plans to return to caddying during the event but admits she has thoroughly enjoyed her past experiences, “I will certainly feel the craving a bit. However, I’m not used to carrying the bag for ladies and the only girl I’ve worked with is Michelle Wie. It was great fun.”

The Sölvesborg Ladies Open hosted by Fanny Sunesson will take place from the 22 -24 May at Sölvesborg Golf Club in Sweden.
