The third edition of the Bossey Ladies Championship, held at the impressive Association du Golf & Country Club de Bossey, will tee off this Thursday. The event will feature seventeen past winners and the current top three players on the LETAS ranking, as the 2019 season heads into the final five events of the year.
Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen currently enjoys a slim lead over Laura Gomez Ruiz of Spain, ahead by just under 1,300 points at the top of the table.
The Finn narrowly missed out on claiming her second LETAS win at last week’s Anna Nordqvist Vasteras Open, finishing in a tie for third place alongside Gomez Ruiz, Nina Pegova of Russia and England’s Hayley Davis. Sweden’s Annelie Sjoholm produced a stunning finish to claim the title on her home course in an event organised by her mother and father, Stefan and Magdalena Sjoholm. The 23-year-old’s win moved her into fourth place on the order of merit.
Gomez Ruiz is enjoying a strong full season as a professional. The Spanish player gave up her amateur status in July last year after graduating from university in the United States, and went on to win in just her fifth event as a professional. The 23-year-old’s goal for this season is to earn her LET card but topping the rankings is also on her mind.
Other players to watch this week will be England’s Hayley Davis, hoping to record her first win on the LET Access Series. The Englishwoman has enjoyed a solid season but that first title has so far alluded her. Italy’s Lucrezia Colombotto Rosso and Chloe Williams of Wales have also shown strong performances over the course of the season. Colombotto Rosso came close to her first title at the Ribeira Sacra Patrimonio de Humanidad International Ladies Open, finishing second to England’s Rachel Goodall, who recorded a stunning nine under par, 61, in the second round.
Williams has found herself in contention on a number of occasions going into the final day this year but has not managed to finish it off. A win shouldn’t be far away for the 24-year-old.
There are 20 elite amateurs in the field including Switzerland’s Elena Moosmann, who claimed the VP Bank Ladies Open in her home country earlier this year, Tereza Melecka from the Czech Republic, who finished in a tie for second at the recent Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge, and Hsin Chiao Chang from the Republic of China, who is the current Falso Series Asia Champion.
Play begins at 8.00 on Thursday morning.
