Sweden’s Maja Stark fired a closing round of three-under 68 to secure her maiden professional win at the PGA Championship By Trelleborgs Kommun in only her second start on LETAS.
The five-tournament stretch in Sweden came to an end with a third Swede winning a LETAS event on home soil.
Stark, who competed in the 2017 PING Junior Solheim Cup, set her winning round off with four birdies on the front nine to make the turn in 34 (-4).
The Swede then carded a steady back nine, dropping one shot on the par-three 12th, and finished three-under-par for the round and -8 for the tournament.
“It feels great! It always creates some extra pressure when people you know are watching. I think after the birdie on the first I became a little more relaxed, so I guess that was the major thing that changed my mindset,” said Stark.
“On the first tee I felt normal. I wasn’t too nervous, but I maybe had a little bit too defensive a mindset. On the last green I was just so focused on the first putt because it was pretty long. I don’t really know what I was thinking when I won!”
England’s Lily May Humphreys put on a great show with the round of the day, a 67, which moved her into outright second place on seven-under-par.
Humphreys, who played in the PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2019, put pressure on the leader as after making a bogey on the third hole made three birdies on the front nine.
The LETAS winner concluded her final round with birdies on holes 15 and 18 to clinch her third consecutive runner-up finish.
Finland’s Emilia Tukiainen claimed third place and was five-under for the round through fourteen holes but dropped three shots on holes 15 and 16 to shoot 69 (-2) and finish three shots back.
Sweden’s Josefine Nyqvist, Korean Nayeon Eum and Norwegian amateur Mia Sandtorv Lussand shared fourth place on three-under-par.
Another Swede My Leander took the solo seventh spot on -2 as she carded a final round of 69, while three players who tied for eighth place on -1 were India’s Amandeep Drall and England’s Thalia Martin and Chiara Noja.
