Patricia Sanz Barrio of Spain held a two stroke advantage going into the final round of the Terre Blanche Ladies Open in France after carding a second round of four under par 69.
The 22-year-old amateur from Madrid mixed an eagle with four birdies and two bogeys on Le Riou Course at Terre Blanche in Provence on Friday.
The Auburn University graduate, with a degree in microbiology, ended the day at six under par, two clear of experienced Frenchwoman Sophie Giquel-Bettan.
Sanz Barrio was extremely happy with her round, having played extremely well and only missed one green. Her eagle came after hitting her 5-iron to within two metres of the flag on the par five ninth hole while her bogeys on holes number two and 15 were both the result of three-putts.
Camille Fallay, also of France, was in third place on two under par, with six players two strokes further back on level par after 36 holes.
They include first round leader Mallory Fraiche who followed her opening round 69 with a 77, fellow American Megan Grehan (73), Melanie Maetzler of Switzerland (72), Celine Palomar of France (70), Sara Wikstrom (71) and Jacqueline Hedwall, both from Sweden (73).
The Terre Blanche Ladies Open, set in a stunning, five-star resort, which was voted ‘Golf Resort of the Year Europe 2013’ in November in the IAGTO Awards, is set for a dramatic conclusion on Saturday, with a number of important bonuses available.
In addition to the €4000 first prize on offer, the highest placed player not otherwise exempt will earn a place in the field for next week’s Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco on the Ladies European Tour.
At the end of the season, the top five players on the 2013 Order of Merit will qualify for the 2014 LET season while the top 15 will qualify for the final stage of Lalla Aicha Tour School.
