SCREEN HOLDS ONE-SHOT LEAD HEADING INTO FINAL DAY

English rookie Hannah Screen holds a slender one-shot lead heading into the weekend at the Santander Golf Tour- Zaragoza after shooting rounds of 67 and 69.

The 24-year-old fired a bogey free round, carding two birdies on the front nine and one on the back to sit on eight-under-par.

“I’m very happy. I was very steady today in the wind. I don’t think I had a bogey which I’m proud of.

“It was tough especially on our first few holes and final few holes coming in. It’s hard to putt out there.”

The weather isn’t the only testing factor for the players this week but the draw as Screen has found herself playing with those who surround her on the Order of Merit, where she currently sits sixth.

“I’ve surprised myself with how calm I’ve been this week; I’ve just been very happy with it being the end of the season and happy with how I’ve played so far. Any other good result is a bonus.”

Screen was on a high entering this week after securing her first professional win at the Calatayud Ladies Open.

Now the rookie has her eyes set on achieving back-to-back wins which would be a first this season.

“It would feel amazing to get a back-to-back win. It would be unreal if I could do that. I’m just going to stick to my game plan like last week and play one shot at a time.”

One stroke behind Screen lies Switzerland’s Elena Moosmann who is searching for her first win this season.

The 21-year-old had a slow start carding two bogeys within the first four holes but soon fired up the flatstick to roll in four birdies to finish on 70 (-2).

“I’m feeling good, today I had a bit of a slow start but then I managed to get into the game and made some birdies.

“At the turn I got a bit looser and then my swing and rhythm was better. I’ll learn from that for tomorrow.”

Moosmann has had an excellent season with seven top-10 finishes including a second place at the Rose Ladies Open where she lost the win to friend and this week’s playing partner Chiara Tamburlini.

The Swiss star now sits fourth in the LETAS Order of Merit with 1,454.62 points but is keen for another win on tour, which would be her first since winning the 2019 LETAS VP Bank Ladies Open at her first professional tournament.

“I’m happy about where I am on the leaderboard. I will just try to play golf tomorrow. I’m one step closer to potentially getting a win and that’s great.

“A win would be everything because I’ve been close quite a few times this year and to get it done would be amazing. A win is always a special feeling.”

England’s Gemma Clews, Sweden’s Corinne Viden and home favourite Spain’s Marta Martin sit in tied third on five-under-par.

One shot behind on tied sixth is England’s Lianna Bailey and Sweden’s Emma Thorngren whilst four players sit on three-under-par including Slovakia’s Anika Bolcikova and Spain’s Elena Hualde who both shot the lowest round of the day, four-under-par (68).

49 players made the cut which stood at +2. The final round begins at 9:00am tomorrow with the leaders going out at  10:20am.
