Austria’s Sarah Schober takes a one shot lead into the final round of the EVLI Ladies Finnish Open, after a second day 69 at Hillside Golf Club.
Schober is in a rich vain of form, currently lying in 5th place on the LETAS Order of Merit, with four top 10 finishes in her last six events.
The 24-year-old from Styria recorded only one bogey and three birdies to add a 69 to her opening 68, for a 5 under total. Schober was pleased with her performance in more benign conditions during the second day.
“It was basically the same golf as yesterday. I made my first birdie on number 8. Before that it was just solid golf. The only bogey I made on 17 was where I missed the drive really bad and then made a pitch and two putt for my bogey. It was two good birdies on number 13 and 14. I hit it to half a metre and on the next hole, as well, to one metre and I was three under by then. I was rolling the putts really well and didn’t have a three putt so far.”
The young Austrian plans to continue as she has over the last 36 holes. She commented, “I’m feeling good and comfortable about tomorrow. I’m just going to stick with my plan and we’ll see what’s going to happen.”
Malaysia’s Ainil Bakar is one shot behind on 4 under par, recording another two under par, 69. England’s Emma Goddard (69) and local favourite Oona Vartianen (73) are tied for 3rd place at 2 under, 140.
Play gets underway at 8.00 tomorrow morning for the third and final round.
