ROOKIE DIARIES: LOIS LAU ON THE LESSONS SHE’S LEARNT

“Exciting” is how France’s Lois Lau summed up her rookie season on the LET Access Series (LETAS).

The 23-year-old from Paris had five top 20 finishes during her first year on Tour, including a top 10 at the Q-Tour Himmerland Championship Presented by Sand Spedition. These have marked her out as a returning talent to keep an eye on for the 2026 season.

Lau also showed stamina this season by entering and playing in all 19 events for 2025. A decision that was right for her rookie season but not one the rookie will be repeating for this year.

Speaking about her first year on Tour, Lau said: “I enjoyed it so much, but it was exhausting.

“One of the big lessons I learned from my rookie season was patience because last year taught me that progress doesn’t always show up right away on the leaderboard.

“Golf this year could be frustrating at times but learning to stay patient through the process and not panic after a few tough rounds is something I’m carrying into this new season as every week is a new opportunity.”

Learning to manage recovery time on the road was the biggest lesson Lau took from her rookie season, where she finished 37th on the Order of Merit rankings to easily secure her card for a second season.

Golf is a family affair for the Lau family with Lois following in the footsteps of her father, Sam, a PGA Professional who previously competed on the HotelPlanner Tour.

Having her father on the bag is a dream realized for Lois and a defining part of her 2025 rookie season.

Speaking about her number one inspiration, Lau said: “He’s been my coach forever since I started playing when I was four. He is my biggest example and I really look up to him. We share similar strengths, short game and composure and we have a great relationship on and off the course.”

The Lavaux Ladies Open was Lau’s favourite venue and tournament week last year. It was also where during the second round Lau carded her lowest round of the season, 67 (-5).

“I thought the course was beautiful. The weather was perfect. This week was just great. I mean I had great golf as well.

“The design of the course, the landscape with the mountains in the back and, the blue sky, you know, it was great. I love this course. It’s so good to hear it’s back for 2026.”

With 19 events and increased prize funds, the 2026 season looks to be a strong year for LETAS. Lau agreed.

Reflecting on the schedule, the 2018 Swiss Ladies International champion and the LET’s lowest amateur at the 2024 Lacoste Ladies Open said: I’m happy to see that we’ll be back at golf courses we played last year. I think there’s a new one in Germany as well. So I’m glad that we’re going to Germany. I think the tournaments allowed more rest in between compared to last year.

“All three events in France I’m most excited for as I know people around those golf courses and they already said they would come and see me and watch me play.

“So I’m really excited for that. It’s always nice to play in your own country and represent your country.”

Like most athletes on LETAS, Lau has one main goal- to finish seventh on the LETAS Order of Merit. To get there she hopes to accomplish another goal, chasing her first professional win.

Lau now heads to Fez, Morocco for some winter training and hopefully also to sneak a round in at Royal Golf de Fes, host of our new opening event, the Madaef Golfs Ladies Open by MSE.

The LETAS season gets underway on the 12 April, in Fez, a new destination for the Tour, where 108 players will start their campaign to clinch LET status for 2027.
