The final event on the 2016 LET Access Series schedule, the Santander Golf Tour LETAS La Peñaza, will get underway on Thursday at Club de Golf La Peñaza, near Zaragoza in Spain, with an international field of 82 players. The tournament will bring to a close an exciting finish to the LET Access Series, with a €35,000 prize fund and the all-important points for the LET Access Series ranking.
Current leader Sarah Schober will be aiming for her first win, with four second place finishes on LETAS this season, and also hoping to secure her place as the 2016 Order of Merit winner. The Austrian can only be caught by Sweden’s Jenny Haglund, who is lying in 2nd place 2,763.75 points behind Schober. The winner this week will collect 5,000 points, with second position awarded 3,700.
Another battle is between players in 4th to 6th place on the LETAS ranking, Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen, Charlotte Thompson of England and Scotland’s Michele Thomson, with 3rd placed Maria Parra from Spain missing the final event to attend the second stage of LPGA Qualifying School. The top five players will progress on to the Ladies European Tour for the 2017 season.
Other notable players in the field include the WPGA International Challenge champion, 18 year-old Eva Gilly from France, her fellow countrywoman Marion Duvernay who was victorious in Spain earlier this year and the ASGI Ladies Open champion, Carolina Gonzalez Garcia, who leads nineteen Spanish players aiming to make an impression on home soil.
Play commences on Thursday 20th October at 09:00am. Spectators are welcome and entrance is free of charge.
