Emie Peronnin and Maja Stark
France’s Emie Peronnin recorded her first professional win in her rookie year, at the Anna Nordqvist Västerås Open by SmartProvider. The 23-year-old from Southern France was pushed hard by Swedish amateur Maja Stark.
18-year-old Stark came close to taking the title beating all the professionals except one. “It’s one of the best results I’ve ever had,” she said.
Stark held the clubhouse lead at three under par, after recording an impressive final round of 69. The young Swede admitted to feeling nervous over the closing holes but held her game together well.
“No, I’ve never been at the top in any major competition like this before so I was nervous over the last seven holes. So special play would have been tough. It would have been awesome to win, but I’ll save it, “said Stark.
Peronnin finished with two birdies, among other things she holed a 15-metre chip on the 17th hole, and was finally two strokes ahead of Stark.
“I have won some amateur competitions, but winning a professional competition is a new milestone in my career. I did not think I was capable of doing it during my first year, so I’m really happy and satisfied now.”
“I actually had no idea how I was doing until my caddy told me at the 17th tee. I just continued playing as I did all day. At the last hole, it was only the question of getting the ball on the green in two strokes and two putts,” said Peronnin.
Her approach shot stopped half a metre from the flag for a straightforward birdie and a two shot victory.
