PEGOVA THRLLED TO RETURN TO COURSE THAT HOLDS GREAT MEMORIES

Nina Pegova is incredibly excited to finish her season at a club which holds great memories.

The Authorised Neutral Athlete had a memorable tournament two years ago when she found herself in a play off with England’s Rachael Goodall after scoring rounds of 66, 67 and 71.

In 2021, Goodall and Pegova couldn’t be separated, and Pegova fought Goodall for seven holes before Goodall clinched the title.

“I’m very excited to be back at Real Club De Golf La Penaza. The club has done some renovation on the golf course on the tee boxes and the course only benefits from that.

“In 2021, it was a very exciting experience. Sadly, we are missing Rachel I obviously associate this course with her after we played so many holes together.”

Pegova has a tough ordeal the past few years. The 29-year-old earned her LET card in 2021 after a successful season on LETAS but has struggled since due to external circumstances.

“This season has been hard because I’ve only been able to play one or two tournaments then I’m forced to have a gap and stop for several months

Then my game goes down. It’s hard to maintain form in tournaments when you don’t have the opportunity to play competitively consistently on tour.

“It’s always hard to get going again.”

Pegova has had two wins on tour at the 2019 Viaplay Ladies Finnish Open and the 2021 Flumserberg Ladies Open.

In 2020, Pegova also competed at her first LPGA Tour event, the Women’s Australian Open at Royal Adelaide Golf Club.

Whilst the last two years, Pegova has faced many challenges she insists she will not stop playing.

“My love for the game and the enjoyment I get from the sport keeps me going. I love the lifestyle, so I always want to continue no matter the barriers I’m faced with.

“I’m based between Spain and Morocco now, so Spain does feel a little bit like home. The schedule is convenient this year as we have two tournaments in a row in Spain to finish so I can have opportunities to play.

“My mum is caddying for me once again this week which is great. I used to have her as a kid. It feels nice.”

Always an optimist, Pegova wants to finish her toughest season yet in style.

“This tournament I will try my best to relive 2021 but most importantly I want to enjoy the game, the tournament, and the atmosphere.

“I am very happy that I can be here and can participate.”

Pegova starts her final event at 13:25 alongside France’s Julie Berton and Slovakia’s Anika Bolcikova.
